About Fanjing Mountain National Nature Reserve

Fanjing Mountain National Nature Reserve is situated in the Wuling Mountain range of Guizhou Province, southwestern China. It protects one of the region's most remarkable subtropical ecosystems, characterized by ancient, isolated peaks with primitive forests spanning various altitudes from 500 to over 2,500 meters. The reserve is dominated by the striking Red Clouds Golden Summit and the Mushroom Stone, iconic geological landmarks shaped by millions of years of erosion. Fanjing Mountain is recognized as a biodiversity hotspot; it shelters hundreds of endemic and endangered species including the Guizhou snub-nosed monkey, the Chinese giant salamander, and a diverse array of plant species found nowhere else on Earth. The area holds deep cultural and religious significance, hosting some of China's oldest Buddhist temples nestled amid the clouds, attracting pilgrims and spiritual seekers. Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to Fanjing Mountain for challenging hikes through lush forests, steep cliffs, and scenic overlooks that offer panoramic vistas of the surrounding karst landscape. The reserve features well-maintained trails, suspension bridges, and observation decks facilitating wildlife observation and photography. Its remote location and ecological importance mean that conservation efforts are paramount, limiting development and visitor numbers to protect the delicate environment. Visitors can combine nature exploration with cultural experiences, witnessing rare wildlife, monastic heritage, and spectacular mountain scenery all in one remarkable protected area.
